TBF it was a good result against a decent Italian outfit who have been in good form this year. They walloped Inter/Roma and only narrowly lost to the leaders 3-2 before the break. They're no mugs and it was a decent performance by us. First half was usual dross though.

Looking at our fixtures on Boxing Day and into January, I can see us in the bottom three and out of the FA Cup.

Being a miserable sod ( experience of supporting West Ham) my take was that his first half selections where who he thought would be a first 11 if none of the WC boys were available and of course Cresswell and Zouma and Cornet being out.

He played Downes in an advanced midfield role again? Why? He will play Soucek every game as before. He will play Fab every game as before despite him being the only old school goalkeeper left in the league who doesnt use his feet in building from the back. Every thing that went to Fab was launched 70 yards to no one and we turned over possession.

He will play Scamacca up front alone. He did try bringing on Antonio alongside second half but that was a failure as Antonio cannot control or pass a football.

He will stick with Cresswell as Emerson is more of a wing back that is not too bad getting forward but looks positionally weak defending.

He will play Paqueta as before in a number 10 role.
He will play Fornals out wide even though yesterday he played central and was probably the most inventive in midfield.
He will persist with Lanzini who scored a cracker but is not up to the pace and physicality of the Prem

2 other observations, Coufal like Soucek is a real, honest hard working player but like his compatriot he is technically below the standards needed for the Premiership and also too slow when faced with quick wide men.

In summary, nothing will change. We have to rely on Rice somehow being better when he returns ( I am hoping he was playing a little within himself to avoid WC injury) , Paqueta becoming effective as a no 10 which he failed at when at AC Milan, Benny scoring a lot of worldies and continuing his improvement, Aguerd recovering from injury, staying fit and transforming the back 4, Scamacca scoring individual goals which looks currently a pipe dream.

Soucek being part of the first 11, Coufal as a RB, Johnson as a CB, Cresswell at LB, Scammaca as lone forward, Downes as advanced midfielder, Fornals as a wide man, Paqueta as a no 10 simply doesnt work but I fully expect all these things to continue and our form to stay as it has for the last year.

Looked better and more decisive in the final third, second half.

Nothing like the intensity and pace of a premier league game though, which is our weakness.

Still filled with dread at the prospect of Moyes seeing out the season.

But this is friendly to keep some match fitness with over a month off.

The only real disappointment, would be nice to see Scamacca score and get some confidence back.

Antonio passing accuracy is zero. Amateur level, Sunday morning park player. That reason alone means he cannot play centrally. He is a headless chicken who should play wide and simply be instructed to be a bartering ram and get a cross in.

We look so exposed to anyone with pace at the back too.

Lanzini finished in open play IMO but scores a worldie from just outside the box.

No sign of any youngsters. Same old from Moyes

We might win but Udinese ain’t playing with Prem level pressing and intensity. Good for fitness but not showing why things might change for tge better when the season restarts
